Canelo Alvarez beats Daniel Jacobs via unanimous decision with the judges scoring the fight twice and Jacobs slips awkwardly and the referee pauses the fight to dry the centre of the ring.
Canelo switches from body to head before Jacobs responds, backing up the Mexican. Canelo lands an uppercut but Jacobs shrugs it off to march forward. Jacobs lands a right but Canelo ends the fight well.
Both men salute the crowd but Canelo should have this. One to go. It could well be too little, too late for the American but he has at least made up some of the earlier deficit on Canelo as we head into the championship rounds. He still needs a stoppage to win on my card, but has narrowed the gap to two.
But suddenly it bursts into life as Canelo lands a right before Jacobs responds with an even bigger left and lands a body shot on the bell. Canelo finds success with his uppercuts before switching to the body. He follows up with a right hand upstairs as Jacobs is forced back to the ropes.
Jacobs survives however and lands a good left hook of his own, although Canelo shrugs it off. Jacobs continues to switch between stances but neither appears to cause Canelo any undue problems.
Jacobs lands a left hand and it has been a better session for the American. Canelo picking up the rounds here and ends this one with a right uppercut.
The Mexican is intent on whipping in the body shots early in this one, and then adds in a right to the head as he takes control of the session. Jacobs switches stances towards the end of the round and increases his work rate as the bell sounds.
Golovkin announced yesterday that Johnathon Banks, former trainer to Wladimir Klitschko, will be his new coach ahead of his clash with Steve Rolls in June. Should Canelo and Golovkin win their respective fights, we could see a third meeting in September.
